Nothing beats the ecstatic feeling of powering on your newly purchased Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus, that is until next year when the flagship successor comes out. The phone is one of the best models you can get this year and is in direct competition with other similarly strong brands like the iPhone and Sony’s Xperia smartphone lineup.
The latest flagship phone from Samsung also boasts a new operating system, which is the latest Android 8.0 Oreo, and takes advantage of its new and improved UI capabilities.
What happens though if your phone will not turn on anymore? Whether it is a new phone out-of-the-box with inconsistent boot up chances or a phone which has experienced a minor accident or disaster, this can be very frustrating. Before you do that, however, there are a few steps to take prior to making up your mind and considering a new brand from a different manufacturer. Connect the phone to a different power source

Try booting to Safe Mode

This mode can be used to check if an app you installed may have been causing problems for your phone, it is essentially a bare bones mode for your phone with a lot of other functions muted while in this mode.
The idea is that if there are no problems occurring in Safe Mode, then the cause of the problem definitely lies in something you might have installed or might have been placed in the phone by someone else. To access Safe Mode you must;
- Hold the phone with both hands
- Press and hold the Power button
- Keep holding the key until a Samsung logo appears on-screen

- A screen with the words “Safe Mode” should appear once the phone is done booting up, by then you should release both buttons

Try the Recovery Mode, delete Cache Partition
This one is more advanced than the Safe Mode and should not be toyed with as it can cause problems if you are not familiar with but played around with it. Note that this should only be done if you cannot go into the Safe Mode of your phone as it is the last and final step before you seek technical help. If you are ready, you should:
- Hold the phone with both your hands
- Tap and hold the Volume Up, Bixby button, and Power button all at the same time and for a short while

This is because the command to Wipe Cache Partition also clears up corrupted data. This may have been causing the problem. Still, if the problem is hardware related, then the Recovery Mode might not do much and might not even appear.
Get a Technician
If problems persist, you might want to turn over the Galaxy device to the professionals. This could be from the retailer where you bought the phone. It could also be an authorized service center which caters to Samsung smartphones. You might want to check up on your warranty policy first though as it varies per retailer.
